The obedience scale

NORSK
Even though obedience produces results and do a lot of good, it always has a price. I also think that obedience varies in price - therefore I use the term: obedience scale. It is obvious that the cost of giving one’s life for one’s friends (1) tops the scale in comparison to bringing a word from the Lord, but both require obedience.

I often say that what the Holy Spirit requires us to do is normally very easy - but not always. I do not know what Agabus saw, but it cannot have been easy to deliver the message:

During this time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. One of them, named Agabus, stood up and through the Spirit predicted that a severe famine would spread over the entire Roman world. (This happened during the reign of Claudius.)
Acts 11:27-28
I cannot have been an easy task to say this, but Agabus was obedient to what
the Spirit gave him to deliver.

But, just as Joseph was faithful to the interpretation of Pharaoh's dream (2) - an obedience that made it possible for people to be prepared when the famine came to Egypt, the disciples were ready to provide help for the brothers and sisters living in Judea when the famine occurred there.

This exemplifies yet another effect of the Holy Spirit: He prepares us for the challenges ahead.

‘Manna’ for today:

The Holy Spirit is able to prepare me for upcoming challenges.
